Posted: Updated:

Firefighters are dealing with a rash of fires in this freezing cold weather. Three break out within five miles of each other and only a few hours apart.

One in Upper Darby turned deadly. It broke out last night at a home on the 700 block of Westwood Lane. Officials say one man was killed, along with 12 cats. A firefighter was also treated for a minor injury. No word yet on a cause.

And in Kingsessing, one person had to be hospitalized after a fire tore through this property on the 5600 block of Beaumont Avenue. It happened overnight. We're told a 31-year old man was rushed to the hospital with burns to 40-percent of his body. His condition is not known at this time.

And crews are called to another fire overnight. This one in the Elmwood section of the city. Flames were seen shooting out of the roof of a building at south 70th and upland streets. The fire broke out around 1:30. It took crews about an hour to knock it down. There are no reports of injuries and no word yet on a cause.

Jennifer Joyce is live in Aldan, Delaware County, where the deadly fire on Westwood Lane occurred. Hear her report by watching the video above.
