West New York Mail Tampering?

Posted: Updated:
West New York, New Jersey (My9NJ) - The FBI continues to make their rounds in West New York regarding a slew of different issues.

You may recall back in December the police director explained how he was questioned by the FBI. Shortly before that, Mayor Felix Roque beat federal hacking charges for tampering with a website to recall him as mayor.

Most recently, agents questioned the West New York postmaster and then spoke directly with the Director of the Housing Authority, Robert DiVincent.

DiVincent explained how he and a few of his employees were questioned last Wednesday at the Housing Authority by two federal agents.

“They informed me they were conducting an investigation, and I let them know that we would be fully cooperating in their investigation in any way they deem necessary,” he said.

However, Chairman of the Hudson County Board of Freedholders Jose Munoz says he has a strong theory as to what’s going on there, and sadly, it looks like mail fraud and election tampering in anticipation of Tuesday’s Board of Education election.

Two weeks ago Munoz said he learned residents at the federally funded FDR senior residential complex weren’t receiving mailed flyers endorsing certain BOE candidates.

Munoz said that he reported it to the postmaster general and shortly after that the FBI came to town.

The Housing Director did admit a problem had been identified and fixed. It turns out Housing Authority employees had an unauthorized key to the mailroom at the senior center.

Munoz explained why a BOE race could possibly be important enough for someone to tamper with the mail.

“Politicians in this town use the BOE for their own political gains by giving jobs to people who support them, by making people donate money to them, it’s a power-grab,” he said.

It seems regardless if the election in this town is big or small, this kind of behavior is just politics as usual in Wild West New York.

The lake is called Lake Hopatcong but some would call it Lake "Hopat-conda"! Recently, there was a fifteen-foot anaconda spotted in the lake by local resident Tony Colantonio. According to Colantonio, the snake was actually harassing him while he was swimming in the lake so he proceeded to sprint out with no harm done."It was straight across, right where the boat is but a little further back. And I just got out of the water and just took off like a bandit!" He said.
