Cobb County man has surgery after fall during Winter Storm

COBB COUNTY, Ga, -

A Cobb County man goes into surgery today after breaking his ankle during last week's snow storm. Eddie Parker, of Powder Springs was working from home when he got a call from his 15-year-old daughter Erin that she was stuck at school.

"I get a call from my daughter saying the buses cannot get here" Parker said.

He set out to drive to Hillgrove High School which is six miles from his home. He made it about a mile and a half from the school but his vehicle got stuck. He walked the rest of the way. Once he got to his daughter, the two began walking home. But Mother Nature would make it difficult, Parker slipped and fell on black ice.

"It just snapped and you could hear it go pow! And so I picked my leg up and the foot just droops."

A good Samaritan helped Parker and his daughter get to a home nearby. The person at the home allowed them inside to wait for an ambulance.

It was 2 hours before an ambulance could reach Parker. He waited, in pain, the whole time.

He finally was transported to an emergency room. He received morphine and his ankle was stabilized. Parker says, despite the painful memory, he'd do it all over again.

"I was going to get her home and make sure she was safe. I mean, that's my job, I'm the Dad," said Parker.
