Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

There is a new crackdown happening on the streets of New York City.

The NYPD is on the lookout for jaywalkers.  And if you are caught, you will get a summons.

The Mmyor has a plan called ‘vision zero’ to reduce a recent spike in pedestrian deaths and a big part of it is a crackdown on jaywalking.

The NYPD says that they issued 27 summonses from January 1 through February 9th of last year.

The number of jaywalking tickets for the same time period this year is 8 times higher, a total of 215.

The police told us that you won’t likely get arrested for jaywalking, but if you are caught without ID, they may have to detain you and put you through the system.
