PHILADELPHIA -

This 66-year-old successfully fought off four or five attackers and was stabbed numerous times. The Philadelphia Police Department's northeast Detectives Division is looking to identify the suspects as quickly as possible.

The incident occurred on February 8, 2014, at 3:54pm, according to police. They say that the 3&1 Variety store located at the 6700 block of Castor Avenue was robbed. Police say that the 66-year-old store clerk was robbed, hit on the head by an object and stabbed in the chest, but he managed to fight off his attackers and chase them out of the store.

The incident started, authorities say, when four or five unknown males entered the store and attempted to sell the man a watch. When he refused to buy the watch, police say he was suddenly attacked by the males and was struck with an unknown object in his head and stabbed numerous times in his chest and stomach.

However, when the males attempted to break open a display case, the hardy old man was able to chase the males from the store.

The suspects then fled from the store and were last seen on Castor Avenue, investigators say. The complainant was transported to Aria Torresdale Hospital where he was listed in guarded condition.

Here's the Suspect Description, according to surveillance and police:

  • Suspect #1: Black male, 18-20 years-of-age, wearing a red hooded sweatshirt, black pants, and black sneakers.
  • Suspect #2: Black male, 18-20 years-of-age, wearing a black puffy coat, and possible red sneakers.
  • Suspect #3: Black male, 18-20 years-of-age, wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt.
  • Suspect #4: Black male, 18-20 years-of-age, wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt.
