A New Ice Age - My9 New Jersey

A New Ice Age

Posted: Updated:
Trenton, New Jersey (My9NJ) - The snow just won’t seem to stop and New Jersey may have to brace for even more white-fluffy stuff in the days to come.

John Homenuk with NYMetroWeather.com chimed in to talk about New Jersey’s winter weather woes.

“Even when you think the pattern is done giving us snow, these little events kind of sneak up on us and for us this one was another one of those and we had a couple last week and I’m just losing track of them, but it seems like this week now, what’s gonna happen really from Tuesday to Friday is gonna be a transition to warmer temperatures so we have a lot of other concerns as far as melting snow and flooding and warming up,” he said.

The good news is that Homenuk promises that we won’t have to whip out our snow shovels for the rest of the week. The bad news is that New Jersey is still in an active pattern of winter weather, so the snow doesn’t seem to be over just yet.

“It’s a huge anomaly for now. When it comes to winter weather the pattern around us has a lot to do with this. So we start all the way out in the Pacific Ocean and there is a very anomalous pattern occurring in the pacific Ocean, and another on the other side in the Atlantic Ocean and the result is this year we have so much cold air displaced just to our north so having that cold air available whenever you get a disturbance coming up just south of our area, it creates an environment which is just suitable for snow and a lot of people are saying that it seems like it wants to snow this year, well the truth is that we have everything in place so that any disturbance that comes through can produce snow,” Homenuk explained.

About a week ago, the New York Times declared that this could be the end of the snow here in the Tri-State area, but Homenuk doesn’t agree with that at all.

“I feel like over time, the pattern is gonna become more volatile, we’re gonna see more swings in the weather from warmer temperatures to colder temperatures,” he explained.

Yesterday was Earth Day and people all across New Jersey took time to celebrate Mother Earth. Founder of the Astor Free Community Garden in Jersey City, Tinina Bland, organized a day of gardening with some of the city’s hardest working two and three year olds. “We reach out throughout the entire community, we grow collard greens, mustard greens, turnip greens, four different types of tomatoes, watermelon, pumpkin and this year we’re introducing fruit,” Bland explained.

Every year the New Jersey Chamber of Commerce sponsors a train heading to Washington D.C. full of lobbyists and politicians. This year marks the 77th annual New Jersey Walk to Washington event where people board a train and use that trip to walk around the aisles and network with some of the Garden State’s top political and business leaders. Governor Christie has even said in the past that the year does not begin until the Chamber dinner in Washington.
