NJ Transit Leadership Changes

Posted: Updated:
Trenton, New Jersey (My9NJ) - Yesterday Governor Christie made an announcement about a transition in leadership referring to New Jersey Transit Executive Director Jim Weinstein’s decision to step down from his post. Now, NJ Turnpike Authority Executive Director Ronnie Hakim will be taking over the position.

New Jersey Transit has had several issues over the past sixteen months, including problems recovering from Hurricane Sandy where they were criticized for leaving over 400 rail cars in low-lying areas which were destroyed during the storm.

Most recently the company got a lot of heat for the excessive delays after the Super Bowl at MetLife Stadium. After the game, Weinstein, who served as the Executive Director since 2010, came out and commended his team for the great work that they did that day. He claimed that it was a great feat to move 32,000 people from the stadium in two hours’ time. However, those who sat amongst the delays don’t agree.

The question remains now, whether or not Weinstein’s decision to step down was a politically motivated resignation?

With legislative hearings on NJ Transit scheduled to begin in March, was this Weinstein’s decision to get away from all the pressure? Or is this just the kind of stuff that happens during a governor’s second term?

A sweetener cheaper than sugar but just as sweet is now in many food and drink products at the grocery store.  It's called high fructose corn syrup.  Some nutritionists, like dietician Dawn Sharp, claim it’s pretty bad for you.

The town of Elmwood Park relies on about 75 to 100 volunteer firefighters for emergencies.  Russell Fenn, IV is one of those volunteer firefighters. He was driving the department’s only ladder truck and crashed it into utility poles.  Police charged Fenn with driving under the influence and said that his blood alcohol level was twice the legal limit.
