NJ Murder Mystery - My9 New Jersey

NJ Murder Mystery

Posted: Updated:
New Brunswick, New Jersey (My9NJ) - The tragic death of former Rutgers University student Billy McCaw has brought great sadness to the New Brunswick campus.

Billy’s body was found Saturday morning, bloody in the snow behind a house on Hartwell Street.

While law enforcement officials continue to investigate the situation by questioning neighbors and people on Rutgers New Brunswick campus to find out who may have been responsible for this tragic death, friends of McCaw have come out to talk about the person that he was and how heartbroken they are over this unsolved murder.

“He would always say, ‘one day you’re gonna tell your kids that was your boy’ referring to himself. So he just really wanted to be known and known in a positive light and loved by everyone,” one friend recalls.

Friends did say that they were with McCaw the Friday night before he was found and that they split up later in the night, which is when no one can account for what exactly happened to him.

Billy transferred out of Rutgers and was currently attending Kean University, but friends say that he would visit them often and still considered himself a Scarlet Knight.

“He was the biggest Rutgers fan. He hasn’t missed a basketball game since he came back from Tennessee. He would play reruns from like the 2006 bowl game against Louisville, while talking about how it was the best day of his life,” friends said.

T-shirts have been created in honor of McCaw that are selling for $20 and all proceeds will go towards a memorial and funeral expenses. Engraved on the front of the shirt is a picture of McCaw’s face and words that read, “In loving memory of Billy McCaw”. Printed on the back of the shirt is “Your Boy” along with his signature saying he would use to get people amped up, “Let’s Gooo”.

Police ask that anyone with any information regarding this ongoing investigation should call the prosecutor’s office or New Brunswick police.

Funeral services are being held today at 7:00pm.

The town of Elmwood Park relies on about 75 to 100 volunteer firefighters for emergencies.  Russell Fenn, IV is one of those volunteer firefighters. He was driving the department’s only ladder truck and crashed it into utility poles.  Police charged Fenn with driving under the influence and said that his blood alcohol level was twice the legal limit.
