Rachel Canning’s Attorney Writes Article Defending The Case

Posted: Updated:
Trenton, New Jersey (My9NJ) - It’s never ending Canning! Just when you think the Rachel Canning story is over and the family is beginning the healing process, Rachel’s Attorney Tanya Helfand went and wrote an opinion piece in the Star Ledger.

Helfand went to great lengths to explain that even though it has been withdrawn, Rachel Canning’s lawsuit had merit and she argued that Rachel Canning was even entitled to money.

Jeralyn Lawrence, Chair of the Bar Association’s Family Division chimed in to discuss this continuing story and the lawsuit that many feel should have never happened. While she said that she respects Helfand as an attorney, she definitely wouldn’t have done something like this.

“I can’t imagine writing a letter in support or against any client or any other professional. I don’t see why she felt it was appropriate to do, so no, it’s not something I would do,” she explained.

The responses to this article on social media have been overwhelmingly negative, specifically towards Helfand. Many people are saying that Helfand should accept the fact that her 15-minutes of fame is over. Others are wondering why she’s still talking about a case when the family is trying to put themselves back together.

There’s also a question of whether arguing a dismissed case in the newspaper is even ethical or a violation of attorney-client privilege. Lawrence said that’s a valid concern.

“I wonder if Rachel Canning did even approve of this, and I wonder if any of the disclosures in this letter come under the attorney-client privilege and if there was that waiver,” she explained.

StubHub, which is a website that provides services for buyers and sellers for tickets to sporting events, concerts, and other live entertainment events, has been hacked. StubHub is getting a lot of bad press, but the site is really the victim here. The hackers have hacked accounts from other sites, and then used that information to get into the StubHub accounts.
