Cancer Survivor, Transplant Recipient, Iron Man Touts 'Donor Dash' To Students

PHILADELPHIA -

The 19th annual Dash for Organ and Tissue Donor Awareness, also known as the "Donor Dash," is coming up on April 13.

Thousands of donor recipients, candidates and family members will take part in the run and walk benefiting the Gift of Life Program.

This year, our Chris Murphy is leading the FOX 29 team at the dash, and he joined "Good Day Philadelphia" live Thursday morning from Central High School in Logan, where a special assembly was just getting under way.

He was joined by Patty Nelson, a donor mom, and a local man with an amazing story of survival, heart transplant recipient Derek Fitzgerald.

He was able to beat cancer, survive a heart transplant and then complete an "Iron Man" competition!

Fitzgerald's was sharing his inspiring story with hundreds of students Thursday morning. You'll hear from him in the video clip above.

We hope you'll join us for the 19th Annual Dash for Organ and Tissue Donor Awareness on Sunday, April 13, at 8:30 a.m. at Eakins Oval and the Philadelphia Museum of Art on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway!

Insurance policies have rules governing what's covered and what's not. Generally, they make sense. The rules are designed to prevent unreasonable costs from being passed along to the insurer, and by extension to other insurance customers. But listen to Sheree Kober's story.
