Battle Over Political Lawn Signs - My9 New Jersey

Battle Over Political Lawn Signs

Posted: Updated:
Bayonne, New Jersey (My9NJ) - It’s cop versus cop in Bayonne, New Jersey. The sport? Mayoral Mudslinging. Challenger Jim Davis says campaign operatives for his opponent, incumbent Mayor Mark Smith, stole or demolished more than 200 campaign signs and he’s got it all on tape.

“This is what happens when somebody’s a bully and decides they’re going to try and take things in their own manner because they’re a little nervous about what’s happening,” Davis explained.

Davis and his campaign workers say they know the guy on the tape and that he works for Mayor Mark Smith. However, the Smith campaign says that is simply not true.

“No one from the Smith campaign is out there defacing anything or destroying any public property. No one authorized by the Smith campaign is doing this whatsoever,” Mark Makarski with the Smith campaign confirmed.

Bayonne Police say that they currently have the tape and they’re looking into this matter.
