Newark Public School Rally Reaches State Capital - My9 New Jersey

Newark Public School Rally Reaches State Capital

Posted: Updated:
Trenton, New Jersey (My9NJ) - A rally took place in Trenton yesterday over Newark’s failing public school system. People are angry over Governor Christie’s solution to getting the cities education back on track.

Many teachers and parents are not happy with Christie appointed superintendent, Cami Anderson, and they want her out. There’s been shouting and yelling at school board meetings and Anderson has announced that she will not be attending any future school board meetings.

Now, the fight has spilled over to the state’s capital right outside Governor Christie’s office where a rally ensued yesterday afternoon. One of the people leading the charge is 17 year-old Newark student Kristin Tulkanik.

“For too long students voices have just been swept aside as students voices and our concerns have not really been answered or met at the point where our schools have literally been stolen from us,” she explained.

Tulkanik feels like Newark and the students specifically have lost control of their schools and that Anderson is not accountable to the students or the people of Newark.

At the rally Tulkanik got up on a podium and addressed the crowd calling on them to fight for what they believe in. She said that she plans to always stay active in her community.

“Whether I become a history teacher or I become the Mayor of Newark one day, that’d be crazy,” she explained.

Governor Christie’s office was asked for a comment about the rally, but they did not reach out with a response at this time.

StubHub, which is a website that provides services for buyers and sellers for tickets to sporting events, concerts, and other live entertainment events, has been hacked. StubHub is getting a lot of bad press, but the site is really the victim here. The hackers have hacked accounts from other sites, and then used that information to get into the StubHub accounts.
