Brooklyn school's planetarium to reopen after renovation

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

Edward R. Murrow looks your average high school until you open a door to a whole new world. Want to explore the galaxies? Experience the constellations? See what astronauts would see? Then look no further than the planetarium at Murrow High in Brooklyn.

Marc Horowitz, the planetarium director and head of the school's astronomy program, says students can visit every planet, see all the stars, travel out the stars and the sun, and explore the galaxy.

The planetarium opened in 1979, but underwent a major transformation for the past four years.

It now has comfortable seating, carpeting, and a new computerized LED system complete with dome lighting. This technology is actually the same used by the Museum of Natural History.

This planetarium is one of only three located in city schools.

Murrow's principal says the goal is to also share this world with students from all over New York City.

This definitely beats the star charts I had in my high school science class.

The official grand opening will be happening on Wednesday.

It appears the subway bedbug problem we've been reporting is getting worse. Commuters already have to contend with sweltering platforms, scurrying rats and packed train cars, and now there's another transit woe: fear of bedbugs.
