Mother Arrested After A School Shooting Prank

Posted: Updated:

A South Carolina mom takes her April fools' prank too far calling her daughter and claiming there was a gunman on the loose at a local college campus.

The prank didn't leave sheriff deputies laughing.

This Is Angela Timmons's daughter frantic call to 911.

"My mother works at Virginia College and she just called me saying that they're hiding in a file cabinet office because there are gunshots on campus,"

The 911 call that sent deputies rushing to the scene on April 1st.

"On the way over there, I'm thinking Columbine High School, Virginia Tech, Sandy Hook ,and I can name more. [The officers] were ready to deal with whatever they saw. And I'm proud of them, "recalls Sheriff Chuck Wright of Spartanburg County.

It was actually a normal day at Virginia College but deputies say an employee there, Angela Timmons, texted her daughter all the way in Tampa, FL with a horrifying claim.

Angela Timmons's daughter told the police

"She's saying she's still hearing gunfire and they're hiding."

The dispatcher responded, "Where is she actually hiding at right now?"

"I'm gonna ask her. She says they are hiding in SF file room. I don't know what that means," said TImmons's daughter.

Timmons daughter tried to call her at work while on the phone with 911.

Angela Timmons's daughter told the dispatcher

"She hasn't responded to me since 10:15 so I don't know what's going on."

Finally, Angela Timmons responded.

"Oh my goodness," the daughter said.

Dispatcher responded, "What's she saying?"

"She's saying she's playing an April Fools' joke. I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry, sir. I don't think she really thought I would call 911."

Deputies were called off, but Timmons, who they say admitted it was a prank, was arrested.

"I don't think it's very funny. I don't think the general public thinks it's very funny," declares Sheriff Wright.
