$77,000 Raised For A Mother Accused Of Leaving Her Children In A Locked Car

Posted: Updated:

It's a mug shot that's hard to forget:  A valley mother was in tears after being arrested for leaving her 2-year-old and 6-month-old children locked in a car while she went for a job interview.

Police found the children crying and Shanesha Taylor was charged with child abuse.  She says she's homeless, needs a job ,and she couldn't find anyone to watch them.

Although she is being charged with a crime, she's also developed support from all over the U.S. from people who say they sympathize with her situation.

People are sympathizing with the single mother that is  trying to help her family get out of a bad situation.

A fundraising web site that was set up to help Taylor has now raised more than $77,000 -- far surpassing the original goal of $9,000.

"I was hoping we would get to $9,000, but once it reached $9,000, I've been in non-stop shock since then," said Amanda Bishop.

Bishop, who started it, lives in New Jersey, but was in Arizona when she saw Taylor's teary-eyed booking photo on the news.

"Obviously, this woman cares for her children and she was really trying to do good for them, trying to better her situation," said Bishop.

The page on YouCaring.com has more than 1,000 comments so far.

But not all support Taylor.  With one person saying, "Are you kidding me?  This person shouldn't be getting money for almost killing her child."

Some say they have been in her situation, "I have an outpouring of people who can relate.  People who are saying you know what, I've been there and I am lucky my children weren't taken away from me," said Bishop.

Shanesha herself has responded to the support, writing, "Thank you to all who love and support me. I am home and safe. I was released early this morning by the grace of God. And the charity of a wonderful church community here in Chandler, AZ. I appreciate everyone who felt move enough to help a complete stranger. I LOVE you all."

The money raised will be used to help Taylor move into a home, pay bills and cover her legal expenses since she is facing serious felony child abuse charges
