Accused Police Impersonator Targeted Pharmacy

Posted: Updated:
OXFORD CIRCLE -

Police are trying to track down a man accused of impersonating a police officer. Investigators say that he went into a pharmacy, flashed a fake badge and started questioning workers about filling false prescriptions.

Fox 29's Jennifer Joyce has the report.

Police say the alleged impersonation happened at the Castor Pharmacy on the 6400 block of Castor Avenue.

Take a look at the surveillance video.

Police say the man in the video, who is in his 30s or 40s, walked into the pharmacy, pretending to be a police officer. He flashed a badge and an ID. He then told the employees he was there to investigate a case of prescription fraud.

The employees let the man behind the counter, but quickly realized something wasn't right. They were asking the man questions, and he didn't seem to have the right answers. The employees called 9-1-1 and the suspect took off. This incident happened in February and police say they want the man caught.

"We don't want someone out there with a badge, saying they're one of us, and that's a dangerous situation. Because sometimes people don't know those questions to ask like they did to confront him in that. If you think someone is not a legitimate officer and they're not in uniform always call 9-1-1, and we'll verify it for you," Northeast Detectives Lt. Dennis Rosenbaum said.

If you have any information on the suspect, please contact Northeast Detectives at 215-686-3153.
