Coast Guard Looking For Boater Who Went Overboard In Delaware River

CROYDON, Pa. -

"Everything happened really in a blink of an eye there was really nothing we could do for him."

Jerry Wolf is one of a few men out fishing on the Delaware River in Bristol Township when they saw a boater go overboard.

"Others yelled out to the man just as it happened, "recalls fisherman, Ed Connell.

"There was a tugboat that actually had come by put off some wake and the boater tried to jump it but it flipped him out of the boat but the boat continued to do circles while it was in the water."

They immediately called 911 but it was too late.

Connelly continues, "we tried to do our best to keep an eye on him but he went down we yelled out to him but there was no response back."

Emergency crews rushed to the scene and out on the water to search for hours but still no sight of him.

"He could have been disoriented. Swam to shore on the other side because he was closer to the jersey side .So the hopes are still there but the reality, two hours in ice cold water…," explains Chief Jim Fournier of Croyden Fire Department.

People who saw it happen say the man wasn't wearing a life vest.

"The life jacket was floating ahead of him down the river."
