Teen Receives Master's In Cake Decorating

Most teenagers have busy lives, but for one teen fitting it all in is a piece of cake.
It all started for 13-year-old Ameena Sohail when her mother, Atiya, signed the two up for cake classes together. The bonding activity quickly became a passion.

In just a few months, she was on her way to the Wilton School in Chicago where she became the youngest person to ever get her master’s degree in cake decorating at the school.

She makes cakes for various occasions, like weddings, baby showers, and birthdays.

The teen even donates her cakes to family friends and school bake sales, but hopes to be able to share her talent even more.

"It all started out with my 13th birthday," says Ameena. “There was no stopping me. I just kept going.”

Her mother says she was just blown away by the young girl’s talent.

“It was very heartening when your child is much better than you at something," her mother said.

"Donate cakes to children who are maybe less fortunate and aren't able to afford one for a birthday or something," she explained. “Cakes are always used for occasions of happiness, so it's adding to that happiness."

The mom-daughter duo says the projects have definitely brought them closer, but serving people is the cherry on top.

“Sometimes it can get a little stressful, but a lot of times, social, family, and the cake can all come together.” Ameena said. "I love seeing the smile on people's face when they take a bite of my cake or they see how good it is."

Ameena's next project will be making 350 cupcakes for a bridal shower next month.
