Rutgers Athletic Director Criticizes School's Football Alum

Posted: Updated:
New Brunswick, New Jersey (My9NJ) - Rutgers Athletic Director Julie Hermann is back in the news again, but this time it’s for questioning the lack of support from alumni of the Rutgers football program who she says aren’t carrying their own weight.

“Some of the people most committed to the institution are people who got to play here and often not our football players because they don’t seem to give back, what’s up with those guys,” Hermann said while addressing a Rutgers journalism class.

Sports agent and Rutgers adjunct professor Jason Belzer said that Hermann’s criticism just isn’t fair.

“It’s a little bit unfair and if you want to have those conversations, it’s better to bring them to campus and have a conversation about helping, but to call somebody out for not giving money when they are in fact, is unfair for all those people who struggle to make the league,” he explained.

At this time, there really aren’t many Rutgers football players who have signed big NFL contracts. Former footballer Mario “Golden Hands” Henry who played at Rutgers in the 90’s before playing for the Patriots, addressed Hermann’s latest comments. He feels that she needs to take her time since she is relatively new to the school and talk directly with players rather than speak in public about them.

Belzer also said that this could be an issue of the media over-exaggerating Hermann’s words.

“The media is interested in Rutgers because Rutgers is a state university. A lot of people in the media went to this university. People care that their taxes go towards paying for tuition for students, for the salaries of these employees. Rutgers has self-sabotaged itself for many years by keeping things secret and at the same spectrum Julie is now going out and going all the way to the opposite end and calling people out for things that are just unnecessary,” Belzer said.

If you recall, just last week Senator Codey called for Hermann to resign. So the question remains regarding Hermann’s involvement in these recent controversies, is she just a target? Or is she her own worst enemy?

StubHub, which is a website that provides services for buyers and sellers for tickets to sporting events, concerts, and other live entertainment events, has been hacked. StubHub is getting a lot of bad press, but the site is really the victim here. The hackers have hacked accounts from other sites, and then used that information to get into the StubHub accounts.
