Upscale sports vacation destination coming to Georgia

EMERSON, Ga. -

The largest sports vacation destination in the world is coming to Emerson, GA in southern Bartow County. The concept of LakePoint Sporting Community and Town Center began as a home for baseball, soccer, and lacrosse travel teams, but it has evolved into a 1,300 acre project that will eventually host more than 40 unique sports including cable wakeboarding.

Braves manager Freddie Gonzalez, former Braves manager Bobby Cox, and Kansas City Royals manager Ned Yost are among the investment partners in this massive project. Cox took Fox 5's Buck Lanford on a tour of the facility which is set host its first baseball tournament in early June.

Lakepoint President Neal Freeman told Lanford that the facility will be an economic boon to Emerson, an area that has been hit particularly hard by unemployment. Freeman says they are creating 26,000 jobs, 11,000 of which will be permanent. There are more than 400 construction workers on the site daily.
