100 Year Old Woman Never Misses A Day At The Gym

Posted: Updated:
A 100 -year-old woman from New York could be living proof to the longevity behind regular exercise.

On long island, gym enthusiasts celebrated the birthday of a very special and active member.

This past Sunday, Elizabeth "Nan" Smith is the oldest member at this New York Sports Club. She turned 100 years old.

She regularly takes part in a national fitness program for seniors called "silver sneakers."

Smith says the classes help her health and balance.

"I improved my agility to walk faster. Do more spontaneous things. But after my fall it set me back, but now here I am,” says Smith.

She enjoys the activity so much she never misses a day.

"I'm her driver. I've been driving her for the last two and a half years now. And in the morning I call before I go. And I say, 'Nan, how are we doing today?' And she says, 'Are we going?' She gets all excited,” says Renata Morelli.

The workouts aren't only benefiting this birthday girl. Her class instructor says her determination encourages many of the other seniors in the class too.

“I don't feel a hundred. Some days I do, other days it's a downward. But it's nice to be among friends, which eliminates a lot of my distressful thoughts. I guess God wanted me this far,” declares Smith.
