Flooding Problems Throughout The Garden State

Posted: Updated:
Middlesex, NJ (MY9NJ) -

This week, New Jersey got it’s fill of flooded areas when the state was pummeled by consistent rain that lasted almost two days. New Jersey is accustomed to average flooding, but the first real rain of the season tends to take its toll. With the weather front dropping almost six inches of rain, places like Middlesex County were plagued with flooded roadways and people trapped in their cars due to the water cresting outside.

Although rising waters and blocked roadways seem enough of a problem for most, Middlesex Borough Fire Chief David Bird also talked about the increased risk for fires breaking out due to the flood waters entering a person’s home.

“[It can happen] because if you don’t watch the power and gas when the water gets in the basement,” Bird said.

In places like South Bound Brook, Mayor Tamas Ormosi is also concerned about rising flood waters and the problems it’s already caused his community. The mayor cited one particular roadway that has been closed due to the recent flooding in the area.

“There’s no place to go, there’s already two cars stuck in the water down there,” Ormosi said.

The South Bound Brook mayor also said that when approached with a situation pitting man against a flood; the flood always wins.

The heavy rains also caused many issues for NJ Transit commuters. Delays were constant on lines running through Secaucus Junction, and the Montclair/Boonton line had to be temporary closed due to rail lines being washed away.

Regardless of the given situation, this week’s rain is a testament for New Jersey residents to be prepared in the coming weeks for any other potential flooding situations the state may face.

StubHub, which is a website that provides services for buyers and sellers for tickets to sporting events, concerts, and other live entertainment events, has been hacked. StubHub is getting a lot of bad press, but the site is really the victim here. The hackers have hacked accounts from other sites, and then used that information to get into the StubHub accounts.
