98-Year-Old Golfer Scores Beyond Her Age

Posted: Updated:

Huntingdon Valley, Pa.-It's golf's most challenging goal; score your age.

For Bobbie Rose she does it almost daily.

Yes, Bobbie Rose, at age 98, still strikes it straight.

Fox 29’s Chris Murphy has her story.

"If the weather's great, I can golf two or three times a week," said Bobbie.

When she's not playing,  she's usually practicing at the Philmont Country Club in Huntingdon Valley.

Her 67-year-old son Mike, an 11-time champion, is her swing coach.

"Mom's always working on her swing and I’m always on her. She wants to get better. She says that every year," he said.

And Bobbie says that's just the point to age gracefully or in her case, remarkably, you have to have a passion.

"You have to have something to do. You can't just sit and wait for life to pass you by. You constantly have to challenge yourself. It doesn't have to be much, but it has to be something," Bobbie said.

And with Mother's Day here, what’s her advice to children in their 70’s?

She says "Get a grip!"

"And they're talking about, 'oh my God, I just reached 70,' and of course I have a lot to say about that one. 70 is nothing," she said.

Bobbie's boundless energy doesn't end on the fairway either.

"And at age 98, she still hosts and cooks the Thanksgiving dinners, the Christmas dinner and the Passover Seder."

"We used to tell people she was one in a million. Well, now at 98 we say she's one in a billion because how many moms like my mother are there in the world?" Mike explained.
