Daring Whale Rescue Caught On Video

Posted: Updated:

Grays Harbor, WA- Rescuers in Washington State set free a humpback whale caught in a net.

Grays Harbor Coast Guard and Cascadia Researcher John Calambokidis worked together to free the whale, who was almost completely immobilized by crab pot gear.

The whale was estimated to be about 40 ft. long.

It had crab gear around its tailstock and flukes, with algae build on it, indicating the net may have been on the whale for some time.

Rescuers say the whale cooperated while they tried to free it.

After a few hours, the humpback whale quickly swam away into the waters.
