MANTOLOKING, N.J. (AP) - Experts say the Jersey shore beaches are in their best shape in years heading into the second summer after Superstorm Sandy.

That's due to a massive replenishment project after the enormous storm and some simple good luck: A series of brutal winter storms actually took it easy on the coastline.

Jon Miller of Stevens Institute of Technology and Stewart Farrell of Stockton College agree the beaches came through the winter in good shape, and the beach replenishment added further protection.

Most of the replenished beaches are 150 to 200 feet wide.

The work was designed to restore them to pre-Sandy shape.

Similar work will continue in Ocean and Cape May counties this fall and winter.

This is part of a periodic series about the New Jersey shore's efforts to rebuild and return to normalcy in the second summer after Superstorm Sandy ravaged many coastal communities.

Burger chain Five Guys is testing the adage that everything tastes better with bacon. It is rolling out a customizable milkshake program and along with bananas, peanut butter, Oreo cookies, salted caramel, you can chose bacon.  Yes that's right: a bacon milkshake.
