Brothers Clerking At 7-Elevens Thwart Man's 2nd Robbery Attempt

Posted: Updated:
PHILADELPHIA -

A man was caught on camera at two Philadelphia 7-Elevens overnight, robbing one and trying to hit another less than four hours later, police said.

No one was hurt at either store even though the guy said he had a gun and the second clerk refused to give him any money, FOX 29's Steve Keeley reports.

The surveillance video from the first store, located on the 2300 block of Girard Avenue in West Philadelphia, shows the guy walks in with no disguise. He says he has a gun under his un-tucked flannel shirt on but doesn't show it. The clerk does what he's supposed to do and the suspect walks away with $40 from this holdup.

The second attempt is eight miles away at Ontario Street and Kensington Avenue in Kensington, beneath SEPTA's Market-Frankford Elevated Line. Around 4 a.m., the man walks in.

But this time the clerk recognizes him. How? Police say it just so happens the clerk's brother was the one robbed in West Philly and he'd sent the surveillance photo.

So, the clerk at the second store called the man's bluff and refused to give up cash. Police say never to do that, but this guy had guts, Keeley reported.

We had another 7-Eleven robbery in Philly one week ago at 1 a.m. in West Oak Lane. It was not the same guy there, as police checked the surveillance video.

And across the river in Moorestown there was another at 3:30 a.m. Thursday. In that case masks were worn.

So, that's four 7-Eleven hold-ups in seven days within 15 minutes driving radius.
