NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) - Her role in the hit series The Sopranos at the age of 17 shot Ari Graynor into the limelight. Now, she's teaming up with fellow child-star-turned-A-lister Jerry O'Connell in an off-Broadway play.

American Hero at the 2econdStage Theatre opens on Thursday night. It takes place inside a sandwich franchise.

"The store owner abandons the store and we’re left to fend for ourselves. My character is a woman who is also there because she has to be. She is a single mother of three. She’s struggling to stay afloat. They find their loose sense of freedom," said Graynor.

O'Connell's character was laid off from his banking job and lands work at the store.

“It’s funny how he tries to implement his corporate tactics into the sandwich making world,” said O'Connell.

American Hero runs through June 15.

“It’s very funny and very timely; it’s a unique, special piece," said Graynor.

Kent Brantly always wanted to be a medical missionary, and he took the work seriously, spending months treating a steady stream of patients with Ebola in Liberia. Now Brantly is himself a patient, fighting for his own survival in an isolation unit on the outskirts of Monrovia, Liberia, after contracting the deadly disease. The Texas-trained doctor says he is "terrified" of the disease progressing further.
