Gator found in LI pond, $1000 reward offered

NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

A $1,000 reward is being offered for any information regarding an abandoned baby alligator found in a pond on Long Island.

The Suffolk County SPCA says the 15-inch gator was found Friday in Mill Pond in Yaphank.

According to authorities, the animal bit a man who spotted it and tried to pick it up.

Dozens of alligators have been abandoned on Long Island in recent years

Having an alligator in New York is a violation and subject to a fine, but abandoning one in a public place is a misdemeanor punishable by up to a year in prison.
