Swimming Laps With Special Olympics Athlete Wanda Guerra

Posted: Updated:
Princeton, New Jersey (My9NJ) - With the Special Olympics coming to New Jersey this weekend, many athletes have expressed their passion and talent for various Olympic Games.

Swimmer Wanda Guerra gave us an inside look at her skills and swimming techniques and spoke about her goals for this year’s Games.

"A lot of gold, but it makes me feel like if I am going to get the gold, but I'll try my best. I swim in 15 meters freestyle, 15 meters backstroke, 4 by 25 meters freestyle relay, and 4 by 25 meters medley relay," she said.

This isn't her first time around the block! Even though Guerra is a Special Olympics veteran, she still gets a little nervous before she competes.

"Being nervous makes me go a little faster," she said.

Swimming Coach, Michael McQuay, has high hopes for his team this year.

"I think we are going to do really well, we got some really good coaches that are coaching them and we look forward for the best, it's going to be a good event!" he said.

The Special Olympics is taking place all next week, June 14th through 21st.

Good luck Wanda!

Atlantic City has been struggling. The Showboat and Trump Plaza Casinos are both scheduled to close next month and Mayor Don Guardian says that the city needs to figure out a way to change things if it wants to survive, but he said it’s not dead yet! “So Atlantic City may be 15 years after Vegas and I realized that it’s not all about casinos, it’s about the overall experience of coming to resorts,” he said.
