NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -
While Hurricane Arthur threatened to put a damper on many 4th of July festivities, not everyone was unhappy about the storm's arrival.
Dozens of surfers hit the water to catch some waves on Long Beach, Long Island.
A high surf warning remains in effect for most of long island and New Jersey, meaning waves could reach heights of up to 10 feet and rip currents will be dangerous.
"The tropical season every year brings the best waves in the east coast to Long Beach and Far Rockaway" one surfer said.
But that isn't discouraging many from grabbing their boards and braving the conditions.
Despite the ideal surfing conditions, officials are warning everyone to be careful if you plan to head into the water.
