Macy’s thrills millions of spectators with spectacular show

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

Macy's put on a spectacular show.

It was the largest July 4th fireworks show in the nation.

Everyone is thrilled it's back on the East Side.

"I'm very excited I can't! I'm here!" one person told us.

The Macy's 4th of July Fireworks are back on the East River for the first time in 5 years.

Even a group of Jersey folks we spoke to are thrilled!

"Anywhere in NY is awesome" they said.

40,000 effects lit up the sky.

The NYPD shifted one of the three barges slightly south due to strong rip currents.

But the Brooklyn Bridge was still the star of the show.

"There's actually 5 miles of wire” said Amy Kule, Executive Producer of Macys 4th of July fireworks. “We got 5,000 effects, 50 firing points on the bridge tonight"

3 million spectators came out for the performance.

Many of them marked their territory early in Brooklyn Bridge Park.

Across the river, people flocked to the FDR to get the best view of the newest effects.

We talked to the executive producer about coming back to the East Side next year.

She said Macy's is thrilled to be here this year but they're known to move around.

More than half the population of New York City rides public transportation to work. No other metropolis in this country even approaches that percentage or the MTA's total number of riders. For that reason, New York likely ranks as the most energy-efficient city in the nation. But what would it take to make the city even more energy-efficient or even self-sufficient?
