Sailor Surprises Family At 4th Of July Parade

Posted: Updated:

Arlington, TX-The parents of a Mansfield sailor got the surprise of lifetime when their son rolled by on a float in Arlington’s Fourth of July parade.

Navy Petty Officer John Parenteau had told his family that his leave had been cancelled and he wouldn’t be home for the holiday. In reality, he was scheming with his sister to surprise his parents.

“Oh my gosh, I had no idea. I even looked at him and thought, ‘Cool, they have a sailor on that truck’ and I didn’t know it was mine,” mom K.C. Parenteau said.

Parenteau enlisted 6 years ago in the navy and hadn't seen his family in a year and a half.

“It’s awesome to be here. It’s wonderful to surprise my parents like this,” John Parenteau said. “I’ve never been able to do anything like that before.”

Parenteau is on leave for two weeks and will spend the time visiting his parents and friends in Mansfield.
