Christie endorses GOP Senate candidate Bell

Posted: Updated:

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) - New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie has endorsed New Jersey's little-known Republican candidate for U.S. Senate.

The state GOP released a statement from Christie Tuesday endorsing Jeff Bell, who won a low-turnout race among four candidates last month for the right to face incumbent Democrat Cory Booker in the November general election.

Christie says that Bell has been a "consistent and strong voice for promoting the important fiscal policies and pro-growth agenda that our country so badly needs."

The governor said Monday that he can fundraise and make campaign appearances for Bell.

Bell returned to New Jersey to run for the Senate after spending more than 30 years as a consultant in Washington. His campaign centers on raising interest rates and putting U.S. currency on the gold standard.
