Upper Darby Break-In Suspect Under Arrest

Posted: Updated:

A man is under arrest, accused of breaking into a woman's home in Upper Darby Township. Police believe she many not have been his only victim.

FOX 29's Bruce Gordon reported young women in Upper Darby may be resting a little easier with news of the arrest of 21-year-old Tyrell Booker. He is charged in connection with an April 16 incident on the 7200 block of Guilford Road, and he's considered a prime suspect in four other local cases of the very same sort in the weeks that followed.

In that April 16 incident, a female juvenile says she was awakened from her living room couch around 3 a.m. to find a slender black man around 5-feet-8-inches to 5-feet-10-inches standing over her. She says he asked her about buying marijuana. She told him to leave, and he did.

Later, she picked Booker out of a photo lineup, police say.

Now, four other cases followed. In one, the intruder attempted to grope the woman.

There were no signs of forced entry in any of these cases, and nothing was ever stolen. But Upper Darby Police Superintendent Michael J. Chitwood says these were indeed frightening incidents.

"I mean, I can't imagine you're in the privacy of your home, and this bum walks in. And thank God, thank God he didn't hurt anybody. We were scared to death that … his brazenness increasing and the potential for violence in anyone of these could be astronomical," Chitwood said.

In the latest incident last Friday evening, the intruder in that case was beaten back by a 52-year-old woman carrying a baseball bat. It's believed that intruder was actually looking for that woman's daughter.

In all of these cases, these were young women that we're talking about, ages 16 to around 32 years of age.

Booker we can tell you was on parole at the time of his Tuesday arrest. He had been in prison up through last December on a burglary convict. He's now back behind bars Wednesday night., Gordon reported.
