A NJ Author’s Nautical Themed Biography

Jersey City, New Jersey (My9NJ) -

New Jersey resident Nicholas Starace is the author of the book, “White Sails Became Me”. This nautical themed biography highlights how his life was shaped by the sea.

“The boat is symbolic, it’s symbolic of my passion,” he said.

Starace has kept his boat docked at Liberty State Park since the marina opened about 15 years-ago.

“I was on this boat when 911 happened,” he said. Starace offered his boat that day as a trauma center, but among all the chaos it wasn’t used at the time of the evacuations.

His book not only touches on terrorism but on his life in the Navy, family loss, divorce, near-death accidents, earthquakes, cancer, a military death in the family, and even what he calls the pleasant trauma of retirement.

In his retired life, Starace volunteers at the NJ VA Hospital. He conducts surveys with the veterans to find areas that need improvement. He said there have been vast improvements over the last couple years due to dedicated staff.

The knockout game where young people randomly punch innocent bystanders to see if they can knock them unconscious has been relatively rare in New Jersey, until now. After three attacks in less than half an hour in a safe Hackensack neighborhood, some residents are concerned that this trend will pose potential problems for more New Jerseyans. Hackensack police are looking for a man caught on surveillance video who is suspected of the three separate assaults.
