Kitten Survives After Being Found Covered In Glue

Posted: Updated:

WEST VALLEY CITY, UT- Officials in West Valley City, Utah are investigating a possible animal cruelty case after only one of two kittens survive being covered in glue.

The little guy is pretty lucky to be alive.

Just last month he was found in Jeanette Gilman's West Valley City yard.

His tail and legs were glued together and he was stuck to the ground where he lay.

"We took the flashlight and looked at it and he says oh my I don't think this one's going to make it. He says I don't know what's on it. I says it looks like tar," said Gilman.

Jeanette washed the kitten with dish soap and water again and again for hours until its legs and tail were freed.

She wrapped the male kitten in a towel and slept next to it, just in case he didn't make it through the night.

"I just wrapped it in a towel and fell asleep on the couch with it and it crawled out of the towel and licked my face. At that point, that was worth it. The kitty was telling me thank you," said Gilman.

Richard Stanley lives right next door.

He and his wife caught the kitten's sister. She appeared to have been totally submerged in the concrete sealant Stanley, a general contractor, had in his yard.

"It looked like a little shaved rat, the hair was all gunked together, so it didn't look like it had hair on it," said Stanley.

Once the second kitten was caught she was taken to an animal hospital, where she died Saturday night.

"After a week of trying to trap the kitty, and finally trapping the kitty, they think it was just too long of the chemical being on her skin, could be soaking in, she could be trying to clean herself and ingesting. The vet really thought it was evident of animal cruelty because the kittens were completely submerged and completely covered," said Autumn Wagner of Best Friends Animal Society.

Now animal services is investigating possible animal cruelty, but Stanley says it looks like a bad accident.

"I think the cats got up on these blocks and just misfortune that its got feet stuck in here," said Stanley.

The kitten that survived is available for adoption through West Valley City animal services.
