KKK Using Candy To Recruit New Members In South Carolina

Posted: Updated:

SENECA, SC- The KKK is recruiting new members in South Carolina.

Residents in one community say they woke up to find bags of candy and a message from the Klan.

Peppermints and Smarties were dropped in driveways along a Seneca subdivision.

"As I opened it up, I realized just what it was. I just read the flier, read off it, 'save our land and join the klan,' and I, my mouth fell open," one neighbor said.

This woman didn't want to be identified on camera but says her family was on their way to church Sunday morning, when they ran over the bag, and stopped to check it out.

"It totally shocked me, but it made me angry," she said.

She said she saw the bags on every driveway, including neighbors with mixed-racial marriages and minorities. She and her neighbors were even ashamed that what she thought was a thing of the past, still exists.

The voicemail of the Klan hotline, says, "Be a man join the Klan! Illegal immigration is destroying America. Always remember if it ain't white, it ain't right. White power.

Robert Jones, the Imperial Klaliff, based in North Carolina, near the Virginia border says they don't target homes for their National Knight Ride.

"I mean, we can't tell who lives in a house, whether they're black white, Mexican, gay, we can't tell that. And if you were to look at somebody's house like that, that means you'd be pretty much a racist," said Jones via telephone.

He says, they're not a hate group, but a civil rights organization, following the bible.

"We're just wanting to see equal rights for whites. We're getting out to the streets and protesting because we feel our country's being took away from us," said Jones.

He says folks in this neighborhood shouldn't live in fear, but after this message they do.

"You shouldn't have to wake up and fear that somebody might burn a cross in your yard or throw something like this out in your driveway with nothing but hurt in their intention," the concerned neighbor said.

The loyal white knights are planning a public protest against illegal immigration in North Carolina in August with a cross burning after dark.
