Camden Daycare Workers Find Gun In Child's Diaper Bag

Posted: Updated:

An unusual discovery in a child's nursery bag by day care workers leads to an arrest of 25-year-old man.

Workers found a loaded, 9 mm handgun in an 11-month-old girl's nursery bag.

It happened at the El Centro Child Care Center on the 400 block of Martin Luther King Boulevard.

The gun was loaded with hollow-point rounds and was reported stolen in Philadelphia.

The child's father, Rakeem Williams, a father of two from Lindenwold, has been charged. He has a prior conviction for drug possession, authorities say.

Police also found that the weapon had been reported stolen from Philadelphia.

As a result, Williams is facing counts of unlawful possession of a weapon, persons not to have weapons, possession of hollow-point bullets and receiving stolen property. He's being held at the county jail with bail set at $50,000.

The New Jersey Department of Child Protection & Permanency was contacted on behalf of the child and her sibling.

FOX 29's Steve Keeley reported live Wednesday morning from outside the Camden Police Department with more details.
