Family Being Evicted After Noise Complaints About Autistic Son

Posted: Updated:
DELAWARE COUNTY, Pa. -

A Delaware County mom says she is getting kicked out of her home, because of something that is all too common.

She has a child with autism, who has extreme behavioral issues.

Wednesday was her son's 8th birthday.

But little "Nicky" will celebrate it in an institution.

8-year-old Nicholas is a beautiful child. He was an angel of a baby who has grown into a striking young boy.

"On a good day he giggles and laughs likes to play with a ball, but that can turn to hitting you in the face," said mother Christine Saunders.

His bedroom tells one story- he has outbursts and can be very violent, his door has been a frequent target, and he's kicked a hole clear through.

"I think it's a lot because he can't talk, he's not verbal so he's frustrated, impatient waiting for food and can have a complete meltdown," said Saunders.

His meltdowns are loud, and police have been called- numerous times

Building management has sent one notice after another, containing complaints of excessive noise, stomping, banging, slamming doors, and bouncing balls.

Now, the final notice tells Christine's lease isn't being renewed, she's got to pack up her family and get out in a matter of weeks.

She understands the why, but it doesn't make it any easier, as her child is never going to be quiet. Her dream is a simple one.

"Try to find maybe like a single place so they won't hear the noise, and won't get complaints things like that," she said.

Insurance policies have rules governing what's covered and what's not. Generally, they make sense. The rules are designed to prevent unreasonable costs from being passed along to the insurer, and by extension to other insurance customers. But listen to Sheree Kober's story.
