Odor Out Of Clifton, NJ Is Angering Residents

Clifton, New Jersey (My9NJ) -

New Jersey is known for a lot of things, including its smells. In Clifton, New Jersey, people have been complaining of a diesel-like smell coming from the smoke stack of a printing press, Kay Printing, owned by KM Media. Some people believe the smell is making them sick.

Valerie Holder, who works in Clifton, says she is getting very annoyed by the smell.

“It was making me nauseous actually,” she shared.

Clifton resident, Tom Russo, also has issues with the smell.

“When the wind blew this way, it was definitely a problem,” Russo said.

After neighbors have made dozens of complaints to the county, the printing company said they have finally shut down the machine that was causing the smell. Charles Tumminello, owner of Kay Printing, says it’ll be a few months until he gets the part to get that machine back up and running, and the expectation is that it won’t smell.

Residents are relieved. Keith Furlong, Passaic Country spokesman, released a statement.

“In the meantime, the county will continue to respond to any complaints in the neighborhood and work with local DEP officials until there is a resolution,” Furlong said.

We all know smoking is bad for you, but shouldn't it be your choice to have a smoke or not? A new law in Sayreville, New Jersey will now limit the sale of cigarettes only to people 21 years-of-age or older. While this law was passed with the intention to help reduce the number of teenage smokers, all its really done is anger convenience store owners and drive away customers.
