313 turns 313: Detroit celebrates its birthday with a party

Posted: Updated:
DETROIT (WJBK) - Detroit 300 Conservancy and Quicken Loans have done it again. The 2014 DOWNTOWN SUMMERFEST, July 24-26, promises to be an exciting three-day celebration of music and arts, food and drink and lots of fun surprises in and around all four of the Summer in the Park downtown park settings.

This year's festival includes Detroit's 3-1-3 Birthday Party Extravaganza on July 24, the Campus Martius 10th Anniversary Block Party on July 25, plus a fun-filled Pop-Up Parade that the whole family can partake in on July 26. Other activities include? a night of free theatre under-the-stars with Mystery in the Park: an audience participation theatre challenge, to be followed with a screening of the movie The Grand Budapest Hotel.

The DOWNTOWN SUMMERFEST is the pinnacle of the 2014 Quicken Loans Summer in the Park series, which activates four unique downtown Detroit parks with a program that includes live music by local and national acts, theatrical performances, free movies under the stars, interactive arts activities, food and drink including a great sampling of locally produced items.

The four participating parks of the Summer in the Park series are Campus Martius/Cadillac Square, Capitol Park, Grand Circus Park and Paradise Valley/Beatrice Buck Park.

We get into the race for Governor and that open U.S. Senate seat with the two most political guys in Michigan. The chairmen of the state Republican and Democratic parties join us to talk issues and probably slinging a little mud. Plus, we'll talk to someone who's bringing a branch of the Satanic Temple to Detroit. What do they really believe in? (hint: it's not worshipping the devil)
