Camden Family Seeks Answers After Dog Found Dead On Front Porch

CAMDEN COUNTY, N.J. -

A family pet is let outside then moments later the dog is shot and killed. Three kids found their beloved dog dead. Now, the heartbroken family wants answers.

“I would play with him, walk him, feed him. I would do everything with him. That was my best friend," said Gary Jenkins.

13-year-old Gary Jenkins is describing his family dog, a 6-year-old Pit Bull German Sheppard mix, Greedy.

Jenkins and his 12 and 8-year-old cousins woke up to gunshots around 6 a.m. on Wednesday morning. The kids were the first to find Greedy shot to death by the front stoop of their Camden rowhome along Walnut Street. A flower now marks the spot.

"My heart is hurting because they killed him. I'm hurting, I’m hurting,” said Dianna Jones.

She is devastated that someone shot her dog. Jones says Greedy was a friendly family pet who played with neighborhood children and knocked on the front door with his tail when he wanted to be let in. She says neighbors never had issues with the dog. According to Jones, Greedy had just been let out of the house when he was killed and the family never heard him bark.

“The police said evidently he was just sitting there minding his business, not doing nothing, and someone shot him twice,” she said.

Jenkins says his heart is broken because the family had Greedy for awhile.

Jones had just moved to the suburbs and was getting ready to build a backyard fence before moving Greedy to her new home. She prays those responsible for such a senseless act will be caught.

"I kept telling Greedy, I said Greedy you're going to your new home soon, and he would just look at me and give me his hand to shake or something like that,” said Jones. “He was just a big playful old dog and I guess people say my gosh she's crying over a dog, but no one wants their animals killed. And I hope they find the one that did it."

The family says Greedy was shot with two 40 caliber bullets at what appears to be close range. Camden County Police say they are investigating and ask anyone with information to call their tips line at (856) 757-7400.
