Protesters Loot, Vandalize Businesses After Mo. Teen's Shooting Death

Posted: Updated:

FERGUSON, Mo. – Tension is continuing to boil over in the streets of a Missouri city following the shooting death of an unarmed teenager by a police officer.

Police say businesses were looted and vandalized late Sunday night following a peaceful vigil held to honor 18-year-old Michael Brown.

All of this is happening in Ferguson, a St. Louis suburb that's about two hours east of the Jefferson City capital.

Brown was shot several times in a confrontation with police on Saturday. Police say Brown physically assaulted an officer before he was killed.

The officer involved in the incident has been put on leave as an investigation into the shooting continues.

New video Monday morning shows police at the scene in an intense standoff with demonstrators after reports of protesters looting and damaging police cars.

Various local law enforcement agencies had to be called in to restore order.

It's not clear how many people were arrested, but no injuries were reported.
