CITY OF DETROIT -  On I-96 just west of  Wyoming, traffic is light but moving slowly and every so often, the sound of sirens can be heard.

Drivers are still being rescued while MDOT and Michigan State Police are asking all motorists to stay off the road.

Heavy rains pounded Metro Detroit for hours and stranded traffic in every direction.

On Detroit's west side the rain was so heavy it seemed to be coming from the ground up - as basements everywhere flooded.

Water made its way into basements in the area of St. Lawrence and Kirkwood.

Heavy rains were not just concentrated on the city of Detroit as reports streamed in from everywhere.

One stranded driver said her wait with AAA was three hours due to so many other calls.

On man Fox 2 spoke with went to Home Depot on the west side for a water pump, but the store was all sold out.
