Video Shows $70K Robbery, Shooting In Supermarket Parking Lot

PHILADELPHIA -

Police have released surveillance video of a man being shot and robbed of $70,000 in the parking lot of a supermarket in Northeast Philadelphia.

It happened at 6:07 p.m. Thursday outside the Pathmark on Bleigh Avenue.

The victim, a 37-year-old businessman, had just pulled into the parking lot to make a deposit at the Citizens Bank Branch inside the store when police say two armed robbers demanded the man's cash and shot him in the arm before taking off.

At the time, the store was filled with dozens of shoppers.

Police say the surveillance video shows the white Dodge minivan pull up to the victim's vehicle in its parking space, then one of the armed suspects trying unsuccessfully to get in the driver's-side door.

While the victim tried to keep them out, he was shot once in his right arm. Both suspects scurried back to their van, then one came to the passenger's side, broke out the window, reached in and grabbed the victim's cash deposit bag.

The video then shows the men speeding off – as the sliding door was still being closed – and exiting the parking lot north on Large Street.

The victim was taken to Aria Torresdale Hospital for treatment of the gunshot wound to his right bicep that exited through his forearm. He's listed in stable condition.

If you see these suspects, police say don't approach them; call 9-1-1 immediately. To submit a tip, call 215-686-TIPS (8477), text it to PPD TIP (773847) or use this online form. Police say all tips will be confidential.
