Tropical Storm Kate forms near Bahamas

- A late-season tropical storm is approaching the central Bahamas after forming Monday morning.

The update on now-Tropical Storm Kate came just after 8 a.m.  A tropical storm warning was already in effect for the central and northwestern Bahamas.

The storm, with 40 mph winds, was southeast of Cat Island in the Bahamas and moving west-northwest. 

Forecasters expect the storm to curve out to sea.
