Charity losses van in accident

A nine-car pileup in Jersey City, New Jersey sent 11 people to the hospital, including six toddlers who were returning from a field trip to the Turtle Back Zoo in West Orange organized by the York Street Project. None of the children who were taken to the hospital ended up being hurt, but the van was totaled. Now the York Street Project, a nonprofit needs help to raise funds for a new van.

"Seeing the accident I have to say it's an absolute miracle that none of the children were hurt," said York Street education director Victoria Hayes.

Field trips are just one way the York Street Project supports women and their children. The Jersey City organization's mission is to provide shelter, food and education. According to Jennifer Mehr, the organization helps 300 families a year.
