Children abduction epidemic

Ravi Parmar and Vikram Jagtiani are partners in pain.

It's been years since they've seen their children – Parmar’s wife abducted their son Raynash in 2012.

“Four days before we were all supposed to come back. She says she’s not coming back and that she’s not going to allow Raynash to come back either,” Parmar explained.

Jagtiani’s daughter Nikhita was taken by his wife in 2013.

“My daughter was four years old. My daughter’s name is Nikhita. She was removed from the United States. She was born in New York. The mother was a U.S. citizen, took her to India, and says she’s not coming back,” Jagtiani stated.

Both children are living in India with their mothers.

Driven to see their children again, they founded the group Bring Our Kids Home, which aims to reunite children abducted overseas with their American parents.

India is the #1 country for parental international child abduction cases. According to the State Department statistics for India, from 2010 – 2014 there are 173 child abduction cases that have been registered.

However, as of now, India is not a signatory on the hade convention of child abduction.

Most developed countries are, there’s over 80 countries on the list.
To sign on requires that children that have been wrongfully taken in another country that is not the country of their citizenship must be returned promptly – in this case the children were in fact U.S. citizens.

It's a bigger epidemic than one might think -- more than 1,000 children from America were abducted by a parent from their homes in the United States and taken to other countries.

Between 2010 - 2013 alone, more than 5,000 children were victims of parental abductions.
