Immigration activists block route to Holland Tunnel

Hundreds of activists opposed to US authorities conducting mass ICE raids blocked the route to the Holland Tunnel Friday afternoon. Police quickly acted to break up the protest, however a group of activists chained themselves together and proceeded to sit in the street.

The protesters blocked the intersection of Varick and Houston Streets in lower Manhattan, where the Immigration Court for New York City is located.

This event was just the latest in a string of protests occurring across the nation demanding that ICE end the current trend of mass raids and that New York City adopt a 'sanctuary city' policy. Several protesters claimed that family members have been unfairly detained by ICE raids.

Several of the protesters were handcuffed and put in the back of a police truck. NYPD has not officially released the number arrested.
