1 dead in Houston from apparent exposure to winter weather, mayor says

Mayor Sylvester Turner says one person has died apparently due to exposure to winter conditions.

According to Mayor Turner, the person was found dead behind a dumpster on Telephone Road south of the South Loop on Tuesday. During a news conference Tuesday, Houston Fire Chief Samuel Pena said the deceased person was found with signs of hypothermia at the scene.

The city has several warming centers open and is encouraging everyone without a warm place to stay to seek shelter.
